Specification for 20mm Thickness premix carpet using GREEN MIX
Scope:
This is a tentative specification for 20 mm thick premix carpet and seal coat using green mix as binder. GREEN MIX shall normally be stored between 5°C to 50°C. However the construction shall be at an atmospheric temperature of 3°C and above. GREEN MIX is usually brown in colour but after setting that is when the acid water breaks away from the bitumen the colour changes to black. The rate of setting of GREEN MIX means the rapidity with which the acid water breaks away from the GREEN MIX.
Materials:
A) Binder: The binder for premix carpet shall be GREEN MIX compiling with modified asphalt standard having a modified bitumen content of 65% min. weight. However for prime coat and tack coat SS grade and RS grade of cationic bitumen emersion should be used.
B) Coarse Aggregate: For premix carpet coarse aggregate required shall be crushed to rock crushed grades, river-bed cubical aggregate and shall consist of angular, clean, tough and durable fragrance, free from disintegrated pieces and organic adherent coatings. The aggregate should be free from clay, mud, dust, ash etc. and preferably be washed with water before use as per IRC: SP: 100: 2014
Size Of Aggregate :
- i) For Premix - 15.75mm, 13.2mm, 11.2mm
- ii) For Seal Coat - Grit (Dust free), quarter size of aggregate
Procedure Of Laying Of Pavement Using Green Mix
- Preparation Of Base: The existing base or surface shall be cleaned thoroughly to remove all dust and other deleterious matter before the carpet is laid. The surface shall be cleaned by wire brushed, broom etc. and finally dusted with sacks or washed with water if available easily.
- Prepartion Of Binder: Before opening the GREEN MIX drums should be rolled at slow speed, to and fro, for a distance of about 10 metres, 5 to 6 times to mix the contents properly.
